The journey, and what comes after it.

How many appointments each treatment takes and how many days that keeps you here, the three ways into Vlorë, and what the practice does once you have gone home again.

Three ways into Vlorë.

A good share of the people who sit in this chair did not start the day in Albania. Tell us how you are travelling and when you arrive, and the appointments are fitted around the journey rather than the other way about.

  1. By air

Tirana is the international airport most patients fly into, and the road down to the coast is the usual way in from there. Send us your flight and we will tell you what can realistically be done on the day you arrive and what is better left to the morning after.

  2. By sea

There are ferry crossings between Italy and the Albanian coast, and several of our Italian patients come this way rather than fly. Routes change from one summer to the next, so check the operator's own timetable — and tell us which crossing you are on.

  3. By road

Vlorë is on the coast road, and patients drive in from Tirana, from the south and from the Greek border. If you are coming a long way for a first appointment, write to us before you set off rather than after.

Vlorë sits on the bay. It is the one photograph on this site genuinely taken here, which is why it is used where the page talks about travelling rather than as decoration.

Planning the trip

How long would it keep you here?

Tick what you are asking about and we will show how many appointments it takes, how many days it keeps you in Vlorë, and whether that is one trip or two.

Tick a treatment and the estimate appears here.

An indication, not a quote. What it actually takes depends on the examination — and you get the plan, how many visits, how long and what it costs, in writing at the first visit.

After the treatment

And when you have flown home.

It is the question that decides whether somebody books at all, and the one a website usually leaves out. Nothing here is promised for the occasion — it is what the practice already does, written down.

  • Written instructions before you leave

What to do, what to avoid and for how long — on paper, in the language you were treated in. Not a leaflet in Albanian handed to somebody who does not read Albanian.

  • We write to you a few days later

A message asking how you are getting on, sent from the practice's own follow-up board rather than left to somebody remembering. If anything hurts or does not feel right, you reply to it and we take it from there.

  • Your record goes where you go

Kept electronically, tooth by tooth, with the plan and what was actually done. Ask for it and it is sent — to you, or to a dentist at home who needs to know what is in your mouth.

  • If something is wrong, say so early

Ring or write, in whichever of the three languages you were treated in. The practice's own follow-up message ends on exactly that offer and means it: we would far rather hear about it early than at your next check-up.

The town

Vlorë, if you have never been.

A working port on the Albanian coast, and the town this practice has always been in. Most patients who fly in make a few days of it rather than turning straight round.

  1. Where two seas meet

Vlorë sits at the point the Adriatic gives way to the Ionian. It is why the water changes colour halfway down the bay, and why the coast south of the town looks nothing like the coast north of it.

  2. Where the country began

Albania declared its independence here, in 1912, and the town has the flag, the square and the museum to say so. If you have an afternoon between appointments, the old town and the waterfront are within a walk of each other.

  3. The Riviera starts above the town

The coast road climbs out of Vlorë and over the pass, and the beaches people mean when they say the Albanian Riviera are on the other side of it. It is the stretch worth a spare day, if you have one.

None of this is why anybody chooses a dentist, and it is not offered as though it were. It is here because a first appointment abroad is a trip as well as a treatment, and it is fair to know what the place is.

Come and have it looked at.

Tell us what is bothering you and we will ring you back during opening hours. Nothing is started before you have the plan in writing and the price agreed.
